Motorhome Cleaning, Idle, Oops and Tablet

The dust has settled and I've been cleaning out the motorhome.  I already took a load to the dump today and am working on another one now.  I put the table cushions and overhead bunk mattress back in.  And then I started a pile of everything that needs to go back into my tool bin.  I believe that I confirmed that the AC power is going through the converter and recharging the house/ auxiliary batteries.

I didn't drive the motorhome too much, but it's idling at 1,050 - 1,100 RPM's today.  It was idling at 800 RPM's before the throttle position sensor was replaced.  But since I didn't drive it too much, perhaps I'll see what it does tomorrow?

Somehow, I made the mistake again of publishing a post meant for my personal profile to the Buckeye Trail Association Facebook group.  I think that my Tablet and the way that things display in the Facebook app is somehow the culprit?

My tablet is the motorhome's record keeping device, entrainment and navigation device.  In my opinion, Google Assistant has been hijacking it.  I don't like it because it won't open apps.  If it did, I'd probably let it run.  But because it's trying to assert itself by taking over the home button, I had to get a 3rd party app to remap the key just so it would do what it's always done before.

Cleaning, The Robot, Computer Resources and GPS Mapping

I'm cleaning today.  And I added things to Adventurer's Project's fundraising ideas.  But I've taken a break from my North Country Trail sub project.  There was a high pitched noise at very low volume coming from The Robot today.  When I opened the chassis side panel, it went away, so it must be barometric?  One of the 11 cooling fans is dead and I think that the high pitched noise came from the drive bay cooler fan?  My guess is that the front air intake holes are getting clogged with dust.  It's really overdue for a cleaning anyways. 

The one thing about owning a chassis with 11 fans is that at some point they all have to be cleaned.  I usually wrap one of my fingers in an anti static cloth and soak it in 90% rubbing alcohol.  Then in the rest for the rest of the computer I use both a compressed can of air and the vacuum cleaner tube and attachment to get some push and pull action on the dust there.


The chassis is made out of aluminum.  And often, I have things sitting on top of it.  But that's not good because it's built that way to help keep the system cool.  With things on top of it, it's very minor, but it's insulating the system and serving to be counterproductive to it's design purpose.

I've got a display in one of the front 5 - 1/4 inch bays that will one day tell me the CPU's temperature is.  Well, I haven't gotten to buying the thermal tape yet to install it's sensor to the CPU.  But the display goes in and out.  My guess is that it's running off of a Molex power connector that's been Y branched over and over again for the chassis fans.  As I've stated one of those fans is dead, but I think it's still trying to draw electricity, but even more now.  And that may be causing a sag on those wires, who's power is fixed.  I want to try plugging in another power cable into my modular power supply unit.  I'm not sure if it has another Molex connection available?  If not, the other way of powering hard disk, DVD drives and other equipment is with a SATA power connection.  I may have to convert one to Molex, but if any of this is possible, the front display could have it's own dedicated power cable?

Yesterday, putting the dispersed camping GPS I's and O's in on the North Country Trail - Minnesota was taxing my newer computer system pretty hard.  Under the circumstances, the hard drive light was on solid most of the time.  It must have been punishing my CPU?  This kind of work is graphical.  It's hard to describe when I when I talk to the employees at my local computer store.  I'd say that what I do is not as intensive as gaming, but probably up there with architectural design.

My Garmin eTrex 20 dedicated GPS runs for about $200.  If you took Buckeye, or North Country Trail's GIS track data and uploaded it to the devices storage, what you'd get is all of the "baby tracks" that it consists of.  And they have to be switched from one to another as frequently as every 29 feet.

In order to make it more manageable, I used Google My Maps to overtake the roads and some of the multi-use right-of-ways.  Unlike regular Google Maps, My Maps allows me to create, modify routes, save and export them.  They were done in the clockwise/ westbound direction because I have the most success merging tracks that way.  Overtaking the original GIS reduced the risk of errors on the merging because one track from My Maps usually eliminated 3 or more GIS tracks.

The merging stripped the written GIS data from both agencies, as a result, it's much easier on my system resources to display them.  NCTA's has things in there that might be of use, but for The Robot and laptop computer, I just open the original tracks up when I need that information.

I just got my white boards cleaned off, then I put my Buckeye Trail maps in the way and powered up my tablet (the maps were in the way).  I got my laundry started about 25 minutes ago.  After I get what I need out of it, I'll probably sleep for the night, then depart for some hiking this weekend, probably on the Shawnee Section.  With this El Niño Winter, I suppose that I won't be getting to the on-road trail for quite some time.

I noticed lately that all the work that I've done so far to the OTHR is starting to make me a little numb to the end that I'm having trouble explaining things and being specific, or precise now.  This is typical for whenever the resource needs a new edition to be written.  Performing lots of mapping does this to me.  And besides diverting myself every now and then, I just ride this thing out until it's done.

In the past 7 days, I have moved from Home Port and am now house sitting for what looks to be the remainder of my time before I leave to hike again.  In public, I'll say that I'm currently located in between the Bedford and Burton Sections of the Buckeye Trail.  Because I have the additional space, I retrieved and set up The Robot here to help me with my project.

Essentially, between The Robot and the laptop, I have 6 CPU cores, 12 gigabytes of RAM, 15 megabits of downstream on the internet, broadcasting on gigabit Ethernet and wireless N Wi-Fi, and a 32 inch plasma screen TV connected via HDMI cable...

Not to mention plenty of space.  At Home Port, my laptop was on a wheeled cart with it's 14 additional USB ports and surge protector electrical strip strapped to the stem.  The space it inserted in was just big enough for it.  Anyways, with the extra computer and the extra space, I should be able to be more efficent and productive when writing the new addition to the Ohio Transit Hiker's Resource.

In setting up The Robot, the security system that I had at the time was 6 months expired.  And I was hoping that it's firewall and my Windows Vista Operating System would keep most things at bay while I had a look at more pressing concerns. That didn't happen and one of my user names became infested.  With the replacement security suite, I'm still not sure if it's Firefox internet browser application has stopped producing pop up tabs and windows yet? I've run three different scans on two user names, which so far, seems to be effective.

By using the word "stress" generically, as I take on more stress, I will need a diversion to help clear my mind and put things into perspective.  In this case, I'm glad I got The Robot out of storage because with it's Vista operating system, I can play my Star Trek games.  Because they were produced for Windows 98 & XP, the Windows 8 on my laptop won't play them because of the Aero Desktop.  And switching the hardware's Binary Operating System (BIOS) to enable it's hardware "legacy" mode to install Windows XP in a dual booting system... well, that crashed the system's start-up and I had to reset it to the factory default.  In other words, this currently remains beyond my technical expertise.

The Robot and laptop are communicating with each other in regards to file sharing.  But the File Transfer Protocols on both computers, the tablet and smartphone have not been set up yet.  That's because I have yet to configure static Internet Protocol addresses and the firewalls The Robot and laptop to accept that kind of communication.  With the way things are going right now, it's hard to say when I'll get to it.  I have a task list, but I haven't been using an itinerary, so getting things done is a little like "calling plays from behind the line" right now.

I'm not a total slob, but I am less than meticulous when it comes to keeping up a living space.  The last apartment that I rented was 730 square feet.  Where I am now is probably in the ballpark of about 2,000.  And it needs to be kept up with regularly.  I printed a hard copy of a schedule of chores and posted it in the kitchen. 

My old apartment was heated with forced water in the baseboards and was included in the rent.  So, naturally, I never turned the thermostat down in cold months.  But here, this is NE Ohio and this place is heated with natural gas, which is a separate expense in owned dwellings and its costs can spike occasionally.  So, I fixed an index card to the front door with magnets reminding me to turn down the heat before I leave.  I was going to place one on the bedroom door, but I haven't found any packing tape yet.  I should probably fix it with painter's tape, instead.

I saw the doctor two days ago regarding my back.  And her opinion is that I had a muscle sprain.  But because it's been over 3 months since I think I injured it, she said that I could probably start back at the gym this weekend as long as I don't max out.  She mentioned that my back is weaker from the injury and that she'd like me to use the lower back machine to get it back up to the strength.  But I see myself getting back to the gym as soon as I perform a stretching regiment twice a day for a week.  The doctor said that I have knot at the base of my spine on the right side.

My Nike Air Pegasus +29's separated between the inner and outer sole.  Since they came apart, I discarded them.  Yesterday, I paid about $110 at Dick's Sporting Goods for a pair of the Pegasus +30.  This is the 30th year that Nike has been selling this cross-training shoe model.  I've been wearing these for the last 12 years.  They have a reputation for having a lot of support.  After my foot type was accessed at Reception before Basic Training in the Army, this is what I was recommended to purchase because of my high arches and that I'm an excessive heal striker.  Since I've worn these shoes, I haven't had orthopedic problems in my knees (like I use to) ever since.

If anything on the car gets done before the 1st, I would probably be using a multimeter to trace a short on my passenger's side day time running and head lights.  That task will entail jacking the car up, removing the front passenger's side wheel and peeling back the protective plastic shielding on that wheel well.  The dealer told me 5 1/2 years ago that almost all of the electrical was routed along one channel in the engine compartment.  I've never seen this, but it the HHR has a reoccurring pattern and that is, it's ridiculously easy to perform maintenance on.  If it keeps going on with its pattern, then I believe the dealer... the wiring should be routed along one channel. 

The task will start with removing the passenger's side headlight fuse and inserting the multimeter leads in their place.  I'll then turn the headlights on manually from inside the cabin.  If it reads 20 amps of current, then the short is between the fuse box and the lamp.  If it doesn't read any current, then its somewhere between switch and the box.

4lbs of ground beef yeilded 13 meals in Mason jars.  I placed two bags of egg noodles in freezer bags and they'll remain there until I go to make a soup.  I still have 3 green peppers and 4 onions left.  I won't go into Wellington until tomorrow and after I get done with my trail maintenance.
I've been canning today.  It always makes a mess. The wheel barrel has been converted into a dish washing tub.  Since I've had to refil the 26L Aquatainer multiple times and carry it back, my abdominal muscles are feeling sore.  It will have to be refilled once again before the night is out.
A member of the park staff came by my campsite today.  When I took over my segment 2 1/2 years ago, I introduced myself to them and she recognized me after all this time.  Seems that the Buckeye Trail has a irrigation problem and the park would like the BTA to produce the labor to fix it.  They're willing to contribute the supplies.  I then referred her to the segment's maintainer.
