30 Amp Main Breaker and Car Inspection

I think I have a perfectly good explanation why I was blowing those main breakers.  This motorhome is powered by 220 volts @ 30 amps from the outside post.  I went over to the converter box just to make sure and I was running a 20 amp main when it should have been a 30.  How I got along using the 20 all this time, you got me?

I forgot to turn the roof heater off when I left a few days ago.  When I put the new 30 amp breaker on and flicked the switch, the roof heater came on.  Lucky me, that would have blown new breakers before?  So, it might be the right amperage?  A sticker from the original owner read that it should be a 30. 

Before my presentation in at Local Roots in Caldwell, I stopped by Stoney's RV and picked up a tandem 20amp + 15 amp breaker.  At Local Roots, I opened up my motorhome notes and found the main to be a 30.  I was a computer repair specialist with my own business and while I was in college, I was required to take a basic electricity class. 

Where I'm fuzzy now, I was then wondering if the main has to be the same amperage as the motorhome's input?  Is it really that simple?  Well, I've got the 30/15 in now and my roof heat pump powered on really healthy.  And the converter is running silent for the first time in 9 months.

This week is going to warm up.  And it's going to be dedicated to my car.  I don't want to speculate on what's going wrong.  But I do know that the first thing that I have to do is lift it and have an inspection of the underside.  I'm pretty sure that I have to do a visual inspection of the exhaust system and feel if there's anything going on with the vacuum tubes.  Apparently, there's more of them that I previously thought.

Additional Electric Heater and Main Breaker Blown

It got down to about 0°F last night and once again, the pipes froze around 15°F.  But I'm coming to find out that they're freezing inside.  So, I went to the local hardware store and purchased a baby electric heater.  My idea was that if I turned it on under the master bed, then I can heat the pipes?  My laptop, tablet, smartphone and the microwave are on the 20amp circuit.  My already existing ceramic heater was on my 15amp circuit.  Considering that there the 20amp had a lot of energy star compliant, low wattage devices on it, I figured that it might handle the load.

The 20amp circuit wasn't the issue.  The load blew the main.  So, I went back to the hardware store.  Then I went to the other hardware store.  Neither had a 20amp and 15amp mini switch combination breaker.  I had some thing to do today, but I knew this was going to cost me... in time.  So, I drove about an hour one way to the RV store to get this breaker, got gas in the car and came about an hour back.  I was so slick in some places on one of the highways that I didn't really know if I was going to make it into a valley on one?

With the main out, the heat was as well.  In about 3 hours, the motorhome's living area lost about 19°F. I found the interior temperature to be at 40°F.  Certain electronics can be sensitive should never go below 37°F.  I turned on my "Portable Buddy" by Mr. Heater.  It's a propane heater.  At 40°F, the inside temperatures started to rise with just this heater itself.  I didn't have time to see how it really performs under the circumstances because I had the new breaker in.  But I'm going to have to order backup, replacement 20/15's soon just in case this happens again.

Heated Hose Insulation, Motorhome Curtains, Baby Vac Bag

I insulated the heated hose that I purchased on the Facebook Marketplace.  But to my chagrin, I discovered that the hose has double female ends.  I'll have to get something to convert the motorhome's end to make it work.

I installed one of the roller curtains over the breakfast nook table today.  This is my first time doing one of these.  One has to purchase a larger length than they actually need and then have staff at the store cut it down.  Well, I mismeasured it (again), but this time I got fed up.  So I took my razor knife and a hack saw and did it myself.  Now, it's mounts.  But, it needs to be wound up.  The mount is pretty tight and I'm not sure about how well I can get out to do that?  Oh, well.  I like how the sunlight can shine through it.

The roller curtain was installed over the right side master bed area window.  That leaves about 4 more curtains to go.  The good news is that they're all smaller than the breakfast table and right side master bed windows.  Then I have 4 windows around the overhead bunk that I have to use snap fasteners with felt for those.  The good news with that is I can just unsnap them and put them in a washing machine.  Then later down the road, I might get crafty with some tarps, sheet foam insulation and hot glue to make a heat shield around the cab windows?  I'll have to cut the foam plys down to pieces that are about 8 inches wide to get it to form around the outside of the windshield.  Then the ends will employ some strip magnets to try and hold it down.

Yesterday, I purchased a canvas laundry bag for my baby Shopvac.  I was using a compression sack for it before, but it's a bit tight getting the vac and tubes inside of it.

I'm scheduled to be at the BTA's board meeting tomorrow in Shawnee of Perry County.  I thought that I was going to be driving back to Painesville afterwards, but with the water tube needing hardware and me discovering it at about 1900 hours in a town where things close at 1800, it's too risky to leave the motorhome overnight.

I replaced a set of dual 15 amp breaker switches.  The broken one pertained to most of the electrical outlets in the motorhome.  A few weeks ago, I attempted to power something else in addition to my electric space heater and I blew one.

Since my little mountain bike is running well, I purchased a smartphone pouch for it.  Unfortunately, the cables for the bike run along the top frame tube where it's supposed to mount.  So, I'll have to punch come holes inside the case for its other strap to mount to the handle bar with zip ties.  No problem.

Woodsfield and Breaker Switch

The motorhome is in Woodsfield of Monroe County.  I replaced the breaker switch for the chassis air conditioning and it's working now.  But I think I may have traced the auxiliary battery charging problem to the converter?  Maybe tomorrow, I'll try the city water intake port.  I'm not sure if I have the right ends for it?  Or if it's going to spring a leak somewhere?
